In brief
How an advisory engagement actually runs
Asking for advice is rarely a casual exercise. There is usually a trigger: an investment you cannot judge, a vendor you feel stuck with, an acquisition, or a customer who suddenly starts asking about your security. You don't want a thick report. You want to know what it costs, what it delivers, what goes wrong if you do nothing, and in what order to tackle it.
An engagement starts with looking and listening. What is in place, what does it cost today, where does it get stuck — and just as important: what do you want to be doing over the next few years. We don't only talk to the management team, but also to the people working with it every day; they usually know exactly where it chafes. Then we lay the options side by side, with the costs, the risks and the consequences of doing nothing.
What you get is not a library but something you can make a decision with: a picture of the situation, the choices, and an agenda of what has to happen this quarter and what can wait. In plain language, so you can put it in front of your board or your accountant without a translator. Whether we then carry it out is a separate question — the advice stands apart from who does the work.
Sound familiar?
Four situations we run into often at companies that approach us.
- 01There is a vendor quote on the table and you have no way of judging whether the amount is reasonable.
- 02IT shows up in the budget as one large number every year, and nobody can quite explain where that number comes from.
- 03A customer or an insurer sends over a questionnaire about your information security, and you don't know what you can honestly fill in.
- 04A move, an acquisition or a growth spurt is coming, and nobody has answered whether your IT can take it.

What you get
Included
- A review of your current environment, costs and contracts, and of the risks sitting inside them
- Conversations with management and users, so the advice is about your work and not about technology in general
- A multi-year plan with choices, priorities and an indication of what each step costs
- Independent advice on choosing software and vendors, including assessing the quotes on the table
- A walkthrough for your management team or others involved, so the decision doesn't rest on one person
Not included
- The execution itself. A migration or rollout that follows from the advice runs as a separate project, with its own plan and price.
- A formal certification or audit with a seal of approval. We test soberly against common practice; certifying is for an accredited party.
- Legal and tax advice. We will flag what is at play around contracts and data, but the actual test belongs with your lawyer or accountant.
Better clear up front than a discussion afterwards. Not sure whether something falls within your agreement? Just ask.
